Ron Gastrobar, located a stone’s throw from Amsterdam’s Willemspark is the brainchild of Michelin Starred Ron Blaau. Any restaurant being featured on the Michelin Guide for those unaware is an amazing recognition, Chefs spend a lifetime to get featured, or even better receive 1, 2 or 3 stars to show their mastery. Ron Blaauw is one of them.
Blaauw is the different league of ‘Chef‘, earning 2 Michelin stars from his previous eatery in 2006 and holding them till 2013 when Blaauw one day decided to return the awards and open in the same location, what is now Ron Gastrobar.
Maybe wanting to change direction? A new challenge? or maybe it was about quality priced cuisine? we still don’t know, but Blaauw hasn’t lost is the flair for parings and flavours as “Ron Gastropub” now holds a Michelin Star.
The Gastropub has a relaxed but cool atmosphere that is expected of this international city. Polished cutlery sits on white napkins alongside long-stemmed wine glasses that dominate the table, instantly giving you the cool/calm reception Ron’s is known for. Delicate and soft lighting sets the tone for what is going to be a great culinary experience.
Bread is presented warm from the oven, served with caramel butter garnished with crackling and capers. It’s the perfect bite while you choose your plates. We recommend 2-3 dishes each and absolutely try Rouleau of foie gras with figs and pistachio which is simply exquisite alongside Ron’s exceptional presentation of colour and form on a plate.
Fresh scallops are constructed into a “Cheesecake” with zucchini and vadouvan which can be topped with caviar for those craving some of the more opulent European flavours on offer here. Dessert is a spectacle, so get the phone out and be prepared to share. Ron’s Ice-cream dream features a bucket full of goodies served alongside an icy-fog. For Instagramable gold.
To Note: Ron’s Gastrobar has a vast wine list, but can be a little pricey, opt for one of the great cocktails also on offer.
