Restaurant Review: De Pisis at The Bauer, Venice

On our visit to this romantic city, we had to stop into one of its most acclaimed dining spots, De Pisis Restaurant. Connected to the hotel Bauer, located on the Grand Canal, this hotel restaurant offers luxury, romance, and truly refined cuisine. Located at the far end of this Luxury hotel, you are taken through the large reception room of gold detailing and marble floors that build up this extravagant hotel and set the premise for what you are about to eat.

Headed up by Executive chef Martino Longo in partnership with Giovanni Ciresa who served 5 years as previous Executive chef of the Bauer Group Hotel brings Italian cuisine and contemporary flavours to Venetian styled cooking, whilst the restaurant interiors boast an art-deco dining room, (selfies at the ready) and terrace seating, offering views over the canal and the famous Chiesa di Santa Maria della Salute.

Now while many might opt for outdoor seating, we opted for an indoor table(December 2017)and was ready to dive in. De Pisis offers a tasting menu at €70 per person which allows you to indulge in some of their signature culinary experimentations, this offer is limited so we would recommend ordering off the menu and really going for gold.

Some of our recommendations include the selection of cicchetti(Venetian tapas), an array of seasonal fish and ingredients that fuse together tradition and contemporary flavors, from oysters, scallops, and codfish. Following we’d advise diving into the Fresh ricotta cheese gnocchi with scampi (prawns), porcini mushrooms and kale or the Taleggio cheese Ravioli with soft Jerusalem artichokes cream and gingerbread as the first course. Don’t get carried away, we opted for half portions of the first course as plates come healthy and you won’t be left hungry.

The staff is always on hand to help, never leaving your glass empty with water and wine on tap. (Depending on your budget). De Pisis really does offer great plates but can set you back. We think the food offering really comes in line with cost, especially for Venice. Don’t forget dessert, Tiramisù here is to die for and maybe after taking a stroll into The Bauer’s events space and watching a Jazz performance.

Located at CAMPO SAN MOISÈ 1459, SAN MARCO, 30124 VENEZIA, You can book Here.
