CAFFÈ DELL’ORO, Florence, Italy

Words by Marvin Maddix

Caffè dell’Oro is part of the Lungarno Collection group, a modern upscale eatery, located in the heart of Florence on the Arno River. The interiors are a breath of fresh air with its naval influences blended with Swedish cleans lines and Florentine touches.

Chef Peter Brunel is at the head of the bistro styled restaurant’s menu and offers a true selection of Italian tradition and updated dishes.

At the Caffè dell’Oro, Italy’s gastronomic tradition shines in the wholesomeness of the ingredients and in the virtuous simplicity of the recipes.” When reading this statement there’s no room for disappointment, and you won’t be. Caffè dell’Oro offers a vast wine list, from local to classics, with help from the great staff if you’re a little overwhelmed, don’t worry they will be on hand to recommend wine by the glass or bottle.

For starters we recommend the Aringa in saor (Marinate herring in “saor”) beautiful fresh fish on a bed of rocket and salad served with caramelised onions and raisins. The blend of flavours offers a great balance from the sweet to cut through the fishy taste coming together perfectly with the soft texture of the Herring.

What we loved most about Caffè dell’Oro is its commitment to deliver the best of Tuscan and Italian cuisine but also to respect the food they serve through serving seasonal ingredients and organic produce. We visited in February (white truffle out of season) and was advised that black truffle would be used instead due to seasonal offering and this sealed the deal.

Caffè dell’Oro’s Menu is playful and inventive. There isn’t a vast selection of dishes with only 4 roasted or sautéed options and 5 pasta and soup dishes. For Mains, we recommend the Manzo infornato alla rossini con castagne (Beef “Rossini style” with chestnuts), followed by strudel al cucchiaio a Caffè dell’Oro play on the Austrian dessert.

There’s no room for disappointment here. Caffè dell’Oro Offers you a new and updated sense of Italy.
