Interview: In conversation with Sophie Beem, Beyoncé’s protege

Words by Marvin Maddix

« I love performing live. Just stepping out on stage and hearing fans react to your music and the meet and greet after and seeing their excitement keeps me happy and makes me want to keep going ».

FGUK Magazine got chatting with Beyoncé’s new signee Sophie Beem for the New 2016/17 issue. We get speaking to Sophie about going from rejection to her new found fandom, having Beyonce as a mentor, fashion inspirations and what comes next. Find the full interview Here.

How would you describe your musical and fashion style?
My music style is rhythmic pop with an urban slant and my style goes hand in hand. I really like street- wear. A cool leather jacket, a rocker t-shirt, I love a vintage Levi too. I feel like music and fashion is an expression of me, so you get two different parts of me in both.

How has being mentored by Beyoncé had an impact on your work ethic?

She’s a great mentor and her work ethic is so amazing. She inspires me every day to just work harder. It’s been amazing having her. She’s helped me a lot with my music narrowing down songs, performance aspect and just helping me grow as an artist.
