In Conversation with Nico Santos

After smashing the charts in mainland Europe, emerging superstar Nico Santos is now releasing a hotly-anticipated new version of his powerhouse hit single ‘Rooftop’ with emerging young UK vocalist Samantha Harvey. The German/Spanish pop sensation has already achieved massive success, with the original ‘Rooftop’ staying within the top 10 in Austria, Germany, and Switzerland for 4 months and counting and we got to sit down with him on his trip to London to discuss ambitions, new track and more.

See all below.

Hi, How are you?

Hey! I’m great. I’m very happy to be here in the UK. The people are amazingly friendly here!

Tell us more about your upbringing and when you found music?

My parents were both musicians, so they basically taught me most of the basics in music! I started playing the piano when I was 6 and my dad had a studio in Mallorca where I recorded my first own written songs when I was 12 or so.

But everything started when I moved to Berlin 4 years ago!

Do you think to be German and Spanish both influences your sound, or would you say you lean more towards one or the other?

I think that it’s a mixture of both! I think I got the positivity and energy of the Latin world and the urbanity of Berlin, cause I write a lot for German Hip Hop artists. Though I could never say what I prefer.

What are you looking for fans to take away from your new track “rooftop”?

That they feel the energy of the song. You can let everything out if you scream out the chorus. I’ve received really inspiring letters and messages from people about how the song really helped them through tough times.

How did rooftop come about and working with Samantha Harvey?

I showed my team videos of Samantha and they reached out to her! That was great and I love how the duet version turned out! I couldn’t be happier, she’s an amazing artist and so much fun to hang out with!

Can you tell us what Nico’s creative day looks like?

My day basically is being in the studio and writing for my first album! It should come out at the end of this summer. I’m happy to share what I’ve been working on. I’ve written over 150 songs over the last year and I had the chance to do what I love the most.

Also, I’ve been rehearsing a lot. This summer is full of incredible festivals where I’ll perform with my band!

If there was one thing you could change so far, what would it be?

Right now I wouldn’t change anything. I can do exactly what I always wanted to.

I’m writing, performing and I get the chance to meet incredible people. If there’s one thing, then it would be to see my family a little more though! Other than that I couldn’t be happier.

Describe your sound in 3 words?

Energetic, urban,  pop

Tell us Nico’s Perfect day?

My perfect day is basically a chilled day right now, cause I don’t have them that much. Maybe sleep till 12 pm, get some nice English breakfast at my favorite breakfast restaurant, listen to some songs on my vinyl record player and chill on the couch watching Netflix.

What’s next for you?

My new single is coming out soon! I’m excited cause it’s a really big and emotional song… I can’t wait for people to hear it! Also as I said, I’m still in works of my first album.

This year is going to be full of cool stuff

How can readers find you?

Mostly on Instagram under my account nicosantosofficial, but of course Facebook also. I’m really connected to the fans. I basically try to answer every message I get!
