Diddy Is Working on an App That Helps Find Black-Owned Businesses

Diddy is the subject of the latest GQ cover story and during a conversation about “black excellence,” he shared that he wants to develop an app that will allow users to look up black-owned and black-friendly businesses in a city or neighborhood.

“This is not about taking away from any other community,” Diddy said. “We’ll still go to Chinatown. We’ll still buy Gucci! But the application will make it possible for us to have an economic community. It’s about blacks gaining economic power.” The app currently has no name and is still in development.

Puff — who is referred to as “Love” throughout the interview, a name he previously switched to last November — spoke on his conversations with Jay-Z and how their focus is on moving the culture forward through economic growth and community building. “I don’t believe in passiveness,” he said. “At some point, there has to be some kind of fight. I feel like we’ve done a lot of marching. It’s time to start charging.” He later adds, “We’re into psychological warfare. The difference is, we’re not trying to hurt nobody.”
