FG: HI DANNY, TELL US A BIT ABOUT WHAT YOU’VE BEEN DOING PREVIOUS TO THE VOICE OF COURSE?
Previous to getting involved with the voice kids, I had my head down producing and writing in my studio after the crazy 2 yrs. with McBusted.
FG: WHAT’S BEEN YOUR BIGGEST CAREER ACHIEVEMENT TO DATE?
I would say that has to be headlines gigs and our own tours, it feels great to have a positive reaction to music you make and to know that people want to come to your show. A few years ago, we headlined BST Hyde park in front of around 70k fans which was incredible and a gig I will never forget.
FG: IS THERE ANYTHING YOU FEEL YOU’D LIKE TO ACHIEVE BEFORE D-DAY AS THEY SAY?
I would love to have another number 1, also would love to have a number 1 with another artist and also break the USA and get bigger globally.
FG: WE KNOW YOU’VE SPOKE ON YOUR ANXIETY AND ISSUES IN THE BUSINESS, IS THIS SOMETHING YOU FEEL YOU STILL STRUGGLE WITH?
Yeah to this day I still have moments…. it’s a scary thing but I never really get it when I’m performing only around what I do. I do have it under control now but anyone out there suffering with these issues don’t be scared to talk to someone as I did and it helped me massively.
FG: WE ALL KNOW YOUR FIRST WRITTEN TRACK “NOT ALONE” DO YOU FEEL LIKE THIS IS A TRACK YOU CAN ALWAYS REFERENCE?
Its great listening back to that song as it’s like an audio diary of what I was doing and how I was feeling at the time, plus to have your 1st written song on your first album is ace. The fans love this song and I love to perform it for them. I like to do it acoustic, so its raw emotion can come across better.
FG: WHAT DO YOU THINK MAKES A GREAT SONG WRITER?
I personally think a great songwriter is someone who isn’t scared to try different things and put their ideas on the table no matter how raw they are. Being open minded but still knowing what you want to achieve. When I write I always visualise myself performing it so it helps me get to what I want to achieve.

FG: WE KNOW POP MUSIC WAS NO WAY NEAR WHAT YOU WANTED TO BE PLAYING. DO YOU FEEL THERE IS A LOT MORE FREEDOM IN THE INDUSTRY IN TERMS OF WHAT GENRE AN ARTIST CAN REPRESENTS?
I first heard a ‘Pop’ song when I first met Tom in Manchester and he taught me a Backstreet Boys song which blew my mind and set off various chemical reactions in my brain which were very satisfying haha…..
I was brought up on rock n roll really, like Bob Dylan, Springsteen & The Who. I never really experienced or knew what pop was but I knew something excited me about it and that’s why I went for it. I kept an open mind.
FG: ARE YOU A BIG BACKSTREET BOYS FAN NOW, AFTER THEY HELPED LAUNCH YOU INTO MUSIC?
I wouldn’t say I was a fan but I respect what they do and it was ace to have them support us at Hyde Park.
FG: WHAT BROUGHT YOU TO DO THE VOICE KIDS?
I saw the Voice on TV and txt my mgmt to say if ever there is a space on that show I would like to do it. As the ‘adult’ show was all sorted with coaches etc they said would I be interested in a kids version and I was even more excited about that as we could really uncover some super young talented kids that the UK has to offer.
FG: HOW INSPIRING IS IT TO SEE THE NEXT GENERATION OF MUSICAL TALENT AND YOU HAVING YOUR HAND IN MAKING DREAMS COME TRUE?
It feels really special, they are great to work with. No bad habits, super positive, great energy and they work really hard.
My team and I have tried to create and mould what they are and want to be as early as possible. I didn’t want them just to come on and do a karaoke version of a song, I want them to do it in their own way as they start to develop an artistic personality.

FG: HAVE YOU EVER MENTORED SOMEONE AND IF NOT HOW DOES IT FEEL TO COACH A NEWBIE?
I’ve kind of mentored but I would say just work with and get good energy in the studio etc., I suppose producing music is a way of mentoring, the voice is just more of an individual situation. I really enjoy bringing out the best in someone and getting them to believe in themselves, I want them to walk with an aura of fearlessness.
FG: IS THERE ANY DANNY JONES KNOWLEDGE YOU GIVE TO ANY OF STUDENTS ABOUT PERFORMING LIVE AND BEING ABLE TO MANAGE WHAT THE BUSINESS THROWS AT YOU?
Performing live is all about being in control, you have to own that stage as if it’s yours and no one else’s and anything you feel the audience feels too. Happy, sad or energetic the audience will be with you all the way. One thing I see as my mission as frontman is to get every single person at that gig to be enjoying themselves and to be a part of the magic that’s happening because nothing exists until us four Mcfly boys play the first chord and the gig starts. That’s the magic happening.
FG: DO YOU FEEL LIKE YOU’LL EVER GO INTO PRODUCING ANOTHER ARTIST?
Yeah, I love producing and working with new artists, it keeps you on your game.
FG: WHAT’S IS YOUR PLAN AFTER THE VOICE?
After the voice, the goal is to get some music out there to the world, we are getting our heads together and trying to be on the same page so we can release something that is true to us but stand up in the current market.
