In conversation with British New Comer Dan Crossley

21 year-old singer songwriter Dan Crossley is the newest edition to the FGUK radar. Busting out on the scene last year with his debut EP the London based artist comes through hard, lyrically and vocally in his new track “Rome”.

Speaking on the track, Dan states: “Understanding that ‘Rome’ wasn’t built in a day, the song is a reflection about how I’m trying to achieve my goals as an artist. It’s a look back on where I came from to where I’m currently at and where I hope to take my music.

First of all, tell us about your upbringing and Telford of course?

Living in Telford was definitely polar opposite to London life. There were certain events that took place in my life (and as cliche as this sounds) that’s where music put me on the right path, especially when it came to songwriting.

Was music always your first career path?

Absolutely! Nothing else really crossed my mind. Even now if I wasn’t making music I don’t know what I’d be doing. There’s never really been a plan B.

You have some serious range on you, tell us about your new track Rome, which we’ve added to our what’s hot playlist?

Oh thanks for adding it to your playlist! Rome is about when I left home and moved to London to be able to work on my music full time. Understanding that Rome wasn’t built in a day the lyrics reflect my musical and personal journey from then until now.

Was Italy an obvious choice when It came to, filming the visuals?

I figured, since the title is ‘Rome’ it made a lot more sense to shoot the video there instead of London, otherwise people would have been very confused! haha

We can see the Sam smith vs Dan Crossley Youtube videos now, does this worry you?

Being compared to Sam is a great compliment as he’s so talented. I see the similarity but I think we’re very different artists and there’s definitely room for the two of us.

Who is inspirational in the eyes of Dan Crossley?

I’ve always like artists who are different and stand out from the crowd such as George Michael, Amy Winehouse and Michael Jackson. Basically artists who aren’t scared to be different and take risks.

Describe your music in 3 words?

Soulful, honest, unreserved

Can you tell us who you perform for, who’s the ideal Crossley fan?

The ideal fan is a loyal fan.. so someone who’s taking notice of my music now and consistently supports everything I do. Basically someone who’s on the journey with me from day 1!

What next for you?

I’m currently working on a new project, which is going to be a lot more mature since my debut EP. I feel like I’ve grown a lot in the last year both in my personal life and musically.

Where can Fans find out more about Dan Crossley?

Social media! Instragram is my favourite platform, but I have the same handle across all channels so give me a follow @iamdancrossley
