IKEA to collaborate with OFF White’s Virgil Abloh for millennial-focused furniture collection

Some of you guessed it! @virgilabloh @off____white prototyping a fresh take on the FRAKTA bag in IKEA’s very own prototype shop in Älmhult. "We’re in a moment where IKEA is transcending, and people are bringing this “do it yourself” culture” to the blue bag. What I’m most interested in is doing that process in partnership with the brand. It’s allowing me to put my opinion on a classic. It’s unique, and distinctly as much of off-white as it's IKEA". Ikea has unveiled its latest design collaboration will be with Off White Designer Virgil Abloh. The collection directed at young millennials moving into their first homes is also set to include a new take on the iconic blue Frakta bag.

“We’re in a moment where IKEA is transcending, and people are bringing this do-it-yourself culture to the blue bag,” Abloh said. “What I’m most interested in is doing that process in partnership with the brand. It’s allowing me to put my opinion on a classic.”

Abloh plans to get students to create the pieces and with nothing set in stone for the collection yet, IKEA says it will launch in 2019.
