GQ China Presents: STAFFONLY Spring/Summer 2019

Since 2012, 智族 GQ has been using internal sources to find and collaborate with local designers and promote them globally through ‘GQ China presents’ at London Fashion Week Men’s. The impressive roster of designers that have been supported by include, Xander Zhou, Kay Kwok, Sankuanz, Sean Suen, Ximon Lee and Pronounce. For SS19, 智族 GQ presents remarkable brands STAFFONLY and Private Policy for their London Fashion Week Men’s debuts.

Perhaps alienation and silence are the best worn disguise in modern life. STAFFONLY focus on the crisis hidden behind the daily life, especially for the young groups. Despite their familiarity with depression and deprivation of being understood, people of modern age show reluctance in dealing with the emotions. The crave for deeper understanding and expression of real emotions are therefore coded in their 2019 S/S Collection.

The exploration of emotional fragility hidden deep down enlightened the designers creating a collection integrating a wide material vocabulary with intriguing textures, such as pre-shrunk wool and matte cotton. Hollowed-out waterproof fabric and the coating that’s unaccountable from distance are exquisitely integrated into the texture. This ambiguity in the fabric is furthered in the colour used, the collection is made-up from a variety of shades with faded tones. Accessories further highlight the theme; the snake-shape headwear quietly resting on the models resonates in harmony with their jewelry that screams repression and quirkiness while funnel-shaped collar and inflated column handbag reflect the instinct for defense and protection.
