Mikael Vilchez

Geneva, Switzerland born designer MIKAEL VILCHEZ this year unveiled his alumni collection of reworked denim, gender fluid designs and haute couture. Forbidden denimeries pulled Vilchez on our radar but In June 2015 the designer received the Swiss Design Award for his BA collection entitled “My masculine model is a woman”, a menswear collection that was inspired by his grandmother.

Who are you:

Questioning around gender and stereotypes has always been an inspiration in my work. What differentiates male from female? What is virility? How will man define his masculinity in the coming decades? In all cases, transgressions of genders and subcultures are still causing emotion and the idea of making this a style is very stimulating to me.

I always have a 360 interdisciplinary approach in my projects and always need to make my own pictures and videos.

A strong cinematographic and visual orientation is omnipresent and emphasized in all my work.

CANG

Run by brand designer Jermaine Nwankwo, British label CANG has proven what a difference a year makes. Since its Autumnal 2017 debut, the label has showcased collections that express a clear street contemporary brand vision and story. Menswear label CANG offers a new effort narrating the journey of an individual’s search for confidence, bravado, and fulfillment.

Brand vision:
To tell stories through collections aimed to inspire, captivate and challenge perspectives. To present progressive fashion design with urban lux intent.

Mancandy

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Mexico saw MANCANDY unveil their Spring/Summer 2018 collection run by designer Andrés Jimenez. The label who runs like an art collective is a statement example of a contemporary label. The brand is fearless, unapologetic and 2018 is the place for this Mexico bred label.

Brand vision:
MANCANDY is the first project in Latin America that mixes music and fashion under the same label. As a Mexican reggaeton singer & designer, I’m looking to represent the diversity and beauty of my culture through the arts.

honest, unfrightened and innovative label ready to break the rules.
 
What can we expect for 2018:
Many interesting things, I will release my first Reggaeton EP produced by the Latin Grammy nominee BrunoOG. Also, I’m going to show my new collection in México AW18 for the international press. A great year is coming 😉

Tokyo, Japan-based label LITTLEBIG is the exception in our list of 2018 ones to Watch. The label has been running since 2014 and seen amble press, But has yet to break through the western market it a big way. The label that has a rock streak delivers edgy wearable designs Think of the beautifully tailored jacket as everyday wear, Developing collection that carefully incorporates elements of culture.

Alisa Kuzembaeva 

Moscow, Russia based label ALISA KUZEMBAEVA is firmly on our radar as one of the most exciting labels of 2017. With only Two years under her belt, central saint martins garage and designer Alisa Kuzembaeva collection has its own principle that shapes the entire vision and aesthetic. Being trained as an architect, her designs have a graphics core, combined with striking shapes. The impressive background helps Kuzembaeva create innovative and contemporary pieces. Her woman aspires for novelty, she is intellectual, curious and galvanic.

Kozaburo Akasaka

Originally from Japan, born and raised in Tokyo, KOZABURO AKASAKA traveled to London to study fashion design at central saint martins college of art where he obtained his undergraduate degree. he then gained professional experiences with prestigious designers in new york such as Thom Browne. After all, he grew convinced to focus on developing his personal aesthetic style in apparel. As result, he joined the MFA degree at Parsons for fashion design for his postgraduate degree. His work at the first year of the program leads him to win VFILES runway spring/summer 16.

WEKAFORE

Nigeria has become a force of nature this year and has taken the spotlight from Music to fashion. Barcelona based designer WEKAFORÉ  Maniu Jibril this year debut his label, in respect to the work of his grandfather who lived and died in the village and never got the chance to see fashion in city life. Wekafore develops a unique aesthetic based around nostalgia and the reinvention of negritude, Showcasing and educating the public to a different side to black African culture that has been forgotten.

Brand vision:
My vision is to introduce a new world of African contemporary fashion, I’m telling a pure African story and bringing it into the mainstream.

S.P. BADU

SPENCER BADU is A unisex designer behind label S.P. BADU that challenges gender perception with a blend of masculine and feminine elements to make garments without compromising comfort. The label who unveiled a stream of social and online collections in 2017, is one of our favorites watches for 2018.

Who are you:
we are figuring out who we are but the fundamental elements of the company are Unisex, Minimal, Aggressive, futuristic but we allow ourselves to play around and not be limited by our inspiration.
 
Brand vision:
Our vision at the end of the day Is to challenge the current state of society and spark conversations. While Creating wardrobe staples that tell a continuous story about gender and all the elements we are fond of.
 
Describe label in 1 sentence:
“we don’t like explaining ourselves” (not in an arrogant way) we feel it more liberating for the supporters to have their own interpretation of the garments.
 
What can we expect for 2018:
A lot of hard work, but we hope to grow and expand our product range and collaborations
