Who watched over you from the poster of your teenage bedroom wall? What did this pivotal figure represent to you and to the people at the time? Were they iconic?

An icon is a significant modern individual who embodies the contemporary characteristics of an era.  Bound to an enduring reputation, icons had enough longevity to prevent them from fading from living memory over the next several generations.

But, in today’s phenomenon of pop culture oversaturation, where fame is measured in seconds, how can an icon subsist longer than an Instagram story? Celebrities are constantly competing for mindshare from an audience notorious for its unprecedented short attention span. And because we suffer from digital encumberments, our icons are prone to overnight decay.

Welcome to this age of no icons.
