Leicester Square Kitchen, London

Words by Marvin Maddix

Like most Londoners, we find we are ones to shy away from the madness of Leicester Square and its ever bustling club goers and street acts but there is now one very good reason to head into one of busiest square’s in Central London. Leicester Square Kitchen situated right on the square is a Mexican and Peruvian fusion restaurant offering contemporary small plates with a burst of flavour.

The Leicester Square Kitchen which only opened may of this year is Sister restaurant to the May Fair Kitchen and Monmouth Kitchen and is run by Amir Jati, ex-Nobu Head of Private Dining and now Service Excellence Director for Edwardian Hotels London, owners of Leicester Square Kitchen. The decor can only be defined as casual Luxe. Brick bare walls with windows looking out on Leicester square but never loosing its charm, the indoors takes you a step away from the madness and at every moment enjoyable. The white bar, clad with white architectural glazed brick has a zinc top complemented by white bar chairs, where guests can either sit for a drink or dine from the live taco bar.

“Our newest kitchen showcases an exquisite selection of contemporary Mexican and Peruvian small plates, complemented with the finest wines and our signature cocktails.”

This truly is a dining, sharing experience. Leicester Square Kitchen offers small plates to share from our favourite soft tacos Mayan-spiced marinated chicken with cilantro paired with black lime, garlic salsa and cayenne pepper mayo and Tiger prawn with papaya habanero salsa to the Robata chicken wings with green habanero chilli sauce. What we think Leicester Square Kitchen really does well is their use of mix spices, condiments and sauces which is distinct in their food paring to their signature guacamole.
Don’t worry if your not one to share there are “bigger plates”, however not to give yourself the option to dive into the tastes on offer would be a shame.
Leicester Square Kitchen offers all-day dining with breakfast served from 7-10:30am Monday to Friday, and until 11am on Sundays. Lunch is from 12-3pm Monday to Friday (until 3:30pm on Sundays), while dinner is served from 5-10:45pm Sunday – Wednesday, and until 11:15pm Thursday-Saturday.
